Swindon Bin Collection Calendar

Fed up of not knowing which bin is being collected this week? Get your bin collection dates from the Swindon Borough Council website and easily add them to your calendar.

This service uses data from the official Swindon Borough Council website.

This service is dependant on the council's website working properly - if you have any issues with this, your first step should be to check their own website above.

1. Find Your Address

To get your collection schedule, we first need to find your property's Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN). A UPRN is a unique identifier for every addressable location in Great Britain. You can learn more about UPRNs on the GeoPlace website.

Enter your postcode or street name below to find your UPRN.

2. Generate Your Calendar Link

Once you've found your UPRN from the search results, enter it below to generate a personal calendar link.

This link uses the iCalendar (ICS) format, a standard way to share calendar information. You can learn more about it on Wikipedia.

3. Add to Your Calendar

Follow these simple instructions to add the generated link to your favorite calendar app.

Google Calendar
  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," click the `+` icon and select "From URL."
  3. Paste your generated calendar link into the field.
  4. Click "Add calendar." It will now appear in your calendar list.
Microsoft Outlook
  1. Open the Outlook desktop app.
  2. Go to the Calendar section.
  3. In the "Home" tab, click "Add Calendar" and select "From Internet."
  4. Paste your generated calendar link and click "OK."
Apple Calendar
  1. Open the Calendar app on your Mac.
  2. Go to "File" > "New Calendar Subscription."
  3. Paste your generated calendar link and click "Subscribe."
  4. Customize the settings and click "OK."
Android / Google Calendar App

Adding a calendar subscription must be done from the Google Calendar website on a computer (see the "Google Calendar" instructions above). Once added, it will automatically sync to your Android device's calendar app.

For Advanced Users: API Usage

You can also access the collection data directly in various formats. This is useful for developers or for integrating with other applications.

Append the desired format to the UPRN in the URL:

  • /<UPRN>/json - JSON format (also the default, this may change)
  • /<UPRN>/xml - XML format
  • /<UPRN>/yaml - YAML format
  • /<UPRN>/ics - iCalendar format

You can also add the following query parameter:

  • ?icons=yes - Include base64-encoded icon data in the output (JSON, XML, YAML only). EXPERIMENTAL

Support the Project

This is an open-source project that started as a personal tool to keep track of my own bin collection days. I decided to open it up for everyone to use. If you find it useful and want to contribute, or if you've found an issue, please check out the project on GitHub.

If you'd like to show your appreciation, you can send me some funds!

This site exists because the council does not offer a direct, user-friendly iCalendar link. This website would not be necessary if the council's website offered more useful features.

Donations go towards covering this site's reasonably small running costs (see our running costs page) and are not intended for profit. Any unintended profits will be donated to charity annually.
